Hans Kooy 

Mr. Kooy obtained a diploma in agriculture at the Agriculture College in Potchefstroom in 1985. During 1985 he established a game farm development just outside Warmbaths – the then Thaba Manzi Game Lodge. Mr. Kooy developed the wildlife services operation from 1987 to date. He was chairman of the Wildlife Translocation Association of South Africa from 1998 – 2003 and was vice-chairman for 2005. He was largely responsible for implementing far-reaching reforms, including the certification of the wildlife industry. He has also been instrumental at inviting welfare organisations to develop a closer working relationship with the industry. In addition to his role as chairman he also represented the industry on the Wildlife Welfare Translocation Forum, The Wildlife Utilisation Fund and South African Buro of Standard (SABS) Workgroup to draw up new standards for auction/holding pens and quarantine facilities. He presented two seminars at symposiums held by the Wildlife Group of the South African Veterinary Association on “Transport Requirements for Wildlife” and “ Game Capture on Game Farms”. He was also presented in 2000 and 2001 with the “Transvaal Game Association Chairman’s Award” in recognition of the positive manner in which he has contributed to the promotion and development of sustainable utilization of wildlife. 

Dr Jana Pretorius - Specialist wildlife veterinarian

Obtained a BVSc degree from the University of Pretoria in June 1998. Worked as a locum veterinarian in South Africa and the United Kingdom. Working as full time veterinarian with the Thaba Manzi Group since 2001 to date. Dr. Pretorius has also completed her MMedVet (Wildlife) Specialist degree through Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria and has registered as such.

Julian Kooy - Helicopter pilot

Matriculated in 2005 and obtained his helicopter private pilot’s licence in 2005 as well. Started working for Thaba Manzi beginning of 2006 as a game capture pilot in training and team co-ordinator while preparing for his commercial pilot’s licence.
